<--This two-year-old boy is now fat & happy, ready for his forever home. "Pat" was too young when he came in to be ridden, but he has been started under saddle now. He has been castrated, vaccinated, does well with all four feet being handled, and loads well in a trailer. He is small and should make a great lady's or child's horse.
"Myrtle" Sept. '06 (at left) February '07 (below) with her proud new owner.
"Beau" at intake November '06. One of the thinnest horses we've seen still standing. He has a long road ahead of him, but he has the spirit to pull through..

At Texas Blessings, we believe that no animal should go to sleep at night with a growling belly, and we felt compelled to get involved in horse rescue in our area to help law enforcement officials have a place to go wtih confiscated, starved horses until they can be evaluated and, where possible, placed into kind, caring "forever homes".
We are constantly looking for permanent homes for the horses who are taking refuge at our facility and would like to ask every horse owner to really think about whether they have the space and resources to take on at least one more special horse.
While many of the horses in our care are "companion only", we do sometimes have rideable ones available, too. Companion (often older or lame) horses should not be overlooked in their wonderful ability to teach new horse people, especially children, the wonders of horse ownership: care, grooming, safety, etc. and they all have love to give in return for the care they are given.
Born in 1995,Rose is a retired Thoroughbred race horse who has really met with a run of bad luck. She has burn scars of her front legs from having been "pin fired" at the track to, supposedly, improve her circulation and make her run better. After her retirement from racing, she was later confiscated, starved, by law enforcement authorities. Several months into what had been a successful rehabilitation here at TBS, she was stricken with EPM which was treated by local vets and at Texas A&M, but she has been rendered permanently unridable due to lack of balance as a result of her disease. We believe that she could still prosper in an environment where she received lots of one-on-one care. Rose needs a sponsor to help with her ongoing expenses.

Born in 1989, "Brandy" has had quite a colorful history as a steady mount around our area. She served as a Team Penning & Playday mount for one lady, then she was sold to a family with three girls and served as a faithful mount for their kids and many other area children on the drill team. Eventually, Brandy took a bad step and permanently damaged her left knee, rendering her unridable. She was eventually sold as a light rider/pasture ornament but fell on hard times when personality conflicts arose. She became "hard to catch" and difficult. Having seen Brandy progress through life from being a young mare to now, having seen her faithfully carrying rider after rider, we offered her a retirement home here at TBS so long as we are able to keep her comfortable.

Honey, Pete, and Cocoa came to us in late 2008 when their owner, a pony-ride business operator, had to leave the area with their job. We agreed to keep the ponies for the family until they could get moved & set up again, but between a new baby on the way and the move, they were not quickly able to deal with the ponies. Several months into this arrangement found TBS personell becoming more & more attached & concerned about the ponies' long-term well-being, so we made a decision to purchase them & run them through our adoption program to assure they would not end up bouncing from home to home.

Honey is a young mare about 13.2 who rides English or Western and is currently in training to make her more soft & responsive to bit pressure. She prefers to be at an extended trot & we are working with her to slow her pace & make her more responsive for meeker riders.
Pete is a mini Appaloosa, about 31" tall, who has been used as a lead-line pony only. He is blind in his left eye, but it is not an obvious or visible defect.
Cocoa is a young Welch pony gelding, very sweet natured learning to ride with a bit rather than just lead line.
Katy is a young Molly mule who was rendered handicapped by a severe & untreated stifle injury when she suffered as a youngster. She does manage to get along pretty well with three good legs & some help form the fourth, and she would love to find a permanent place to call home.
