Texas Blessing Stables acquired Color Me Codee Blue in late 2005. Codee's breeder & original owner had not been able to campaign him due to her ongoing health problems, so Codee's show career began in earnest in 2006.
Saturday, Nov. 8th, 2008 we hosted a birthday party for our niece. Many folks were in & out of the barn visiting Codee who, in his usual form, was standing with his white nose poked through the stall bars begging for treats and rubs. At about midnight, our little donkey began sounding the same alarm he sounds when a mare lies down to foal and we knew something was terribly wrong. Ron rushed to the barn and found Codee lying broadside with his head slightly under the stall gate, making a very weak effort to stand. Within the few seconds it took me to retrieve my stethescope, he became still, his heart quit beating, and he was gone. An autopsy revealed an intestinal torsion or 'twist' with a football-sized hole that had blown a massive amount of feces into his abdominal cavity. We can only pray that shock took him quickly, that he did not suffer long.
Codee was the TxApHC Aged Stallion of the year, 2006, and has qualified for the World Appaloosa Show in both 2006 and 2007. We were very proud of him and loved him dearly!
Rest in peace, sweet Codee, and may you live on in our hearts, in our dreams and in your babies.

Now introducing: "Colored by Stars" AKA: "Cash", pictured (at left) with a young Codee daughter
"Cash" was purchased from the Sheldak Ranch in North Dakota as a potential replacement breeding stallion and is showing great promise as a youngster in the show ring. He has the "splash" gene for bald face, blue eyes, and tall stockings that is sort of our trademark, and he has size, conformation, and a nice temperament (so far!). Keep an eye out for him in the show ring and enjoy watching him grow with us!
