Each animal who finds his way to TBS on his journey through life usually does so at a low point, when he is most in need.  They are often starved, injured, or sometimes just unwanted.  Many just need some basic behavioral or obedience training to be able to fit in and be a great family member.  We take great pride in preparing the animals on our care to become part of a new family.

We try to help these guys with their basic manners, nurse them back to health, and then keep them safe until they can find a "forever family".  They are altered (we DO NOT adopt out unaltered animals, please don't ask), vaccinated, microchipped for permanent I.D., and treated for parasites.

Adoption requires the submission of an adoption application- dogwhere we evaluate the type of home and care typical for pets in the adopter's household and the likelihood that a pet could be a permanent part of the adopter's life. (Adoption application link-cat) There is to be an adoption fee for each animal which is set by the potential adopter.  Adoption is a privilege, not a right, and we reserve the right to decline an adoption application at our sole discretion of the animal's best interest. An approved adoption takes several days to process before the animal can go to its new home.  Adoption fees are held for 14 days to assure that the animal works out in the new home.  The adoption fee is refundable during this time.  If an adopter becomes--at any time--unable to keep the adopted pet for any reason, our adoption contract requires that it be returned to TBS.

Dogs & cats needing permanent homes
Duke is one of the saddest cases we've seen.  Tied to a tree with a short leash for the first year of his life, Duke came in with most every parasite known to canines. He had heartworms, hookworms, tapeworms, demodectic mange, fleas and ticks.  He has scarring from an ingrown collar and still has a bit of a pouch of skin under his neck.  A purebred Great Dane, he was only about 80 pounds at 15 mos. old.  Duke would be a wonderful and gentle companion for a family who would be willing to tackle his remaining health issues.
ADOPTED!
Living at Jungle Paw Resort in Belize!!!!
The "Kitty Minnions" are littermates who were found along the roadside as 6 week old kittens in 2005.  Siamese mixes with gorgeous coloring of lilac lynx-point.  Altought the cats are content to live in the comfort of TBS barn, we would gladly adopt them out to a good home where they could fulfill their true potential as indoor lap kitties.  Preference would be given to a home that would keep their family intact by adopting both together.  These are very friendly & outgoing kitties.

ADOPTED!!!
Chelsea, another Australian Shepherd, was roaming stray in a small south Texas town being hidden and fed by local children when she was picked up by animal control. She seems to have had a family once upon a time but must have been abandoned or lost them at some point.  Very submissive. Chelsea is heartworm positive and needs a sponsor to help with her expenses. Can you be her ever-after?
Sidney, an Australian Shepherd, was turned in to animal control authorities "because she got too big".  She would love to find a forever home that she could never outgrow.  Sidney sits, speaks, and is very outgoing.  Sidney is heartworm positive but has been started on a passive treatment program, and she has been tested (negative) for the herding breeds' MDR1 genetic defect..
Paris (white pup at left), Guinness (black/tan male pup below), were trapped out of a ditch as very young pups where they'd been left to fend for themselves and were surviving by eating a carcass that may have been thrown out for them. Both pups are well-socialized, friendly, crate trained, micro-chipped, neutered, and ready for a forever family to love.
Arty was abandoned in a box as a very small pup, though we can't imagine why.  He is obviously a pure-bred Rat Terrier, pretty small, and very sweet.  Arty does have a tendency to urinate at the slightest stimulus, so he will require an adopter who is prepared to make adjustments to accomodate that..                 --->
"Cleo" is a larger mixed-breed dog who loves water, kids, and belly rubs.  She would love nothing more than to find a forever family.
"Buddy"
Buddy was found injured & living in an abandoned garage.  Someone had put a homemade bandage of gauze & duct tape around his neck.  He had puncture woulnds, abrasions, a hug, swollen hemotoma on his right ear, parasites, ear infection, & on & on.  He is undergoing treatment at this time and will need a forever family to take him in & protect him from ever getting hurt this way again.
